taylor + eric | walker homestead Iowa city

Taylor is a teacher and Eric is police officer. They met while Eric was leading a training at Taylor’s school. Eric asked asked Taylor out and the rest is history!

Planning with Taylor and Eric and their families was so much fun! We exchanged a lot of emails, texts, and calls. The planning process began last Thanksgiving when they were in search of a wedding venue. We had looked at several wedding venues in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area. We then found Walker Homestead and it was EXACTLY what Taylor and Eric wanted.

Their wedding day; who knew a day could be so fun, so warm, so joyful, and so stunning! Seriously! Eric and Taylor’s wedding on Saturday took place at the new and beautiful Walker Homestead in Iowa City. The all-white interior with big windows allowed for some stunning photos by Summer Alisabeth Photography with amazing light. They had an outdoor ceremony under an arbor overlooking beautiful a beautiful Iowa farm. – it was breathtaking and so romantic (and VERY hot!)! Taylor and I always joked that I would bring extra fans to put under her wedding dress, haha!

Q. How did you and your fiancé meet?

I'm a teacher and Eric is a police officer who leads crisis trainings with school districts. He led a training in my building, and afterward asked the principal (who he knew from previous years) about me. She then did some match making!

Q. What do you and your spouse like to do for fun?

Anything outside - go for walks, dinner outside, go to wineries, kayaking, and boating!

Q. What details about you, your family, or culture did you incorporate into your wedding?

My mom made my wedding necklace from vintage jewelry. I also have a small piece of one of my dad's blue shirts sewn into the bottom of my dress in the shape of a heart with the date. A lot of the decor was made or found from vintage things. My aunt hand-made our guest book.

Q. What was your favorite part about the wedding planning process?

I loved getting to pick whatever we wanted. At times it was a little overwhelming, but it's the one and only time in your life that you get to piece together a day of all of your favorite things. I loved looking through options together and talking about what we liked best.

Q. What was your favorite memory of the wedding day?

It's hard to pick out just one memory...I remember at one point in the night while we were taking sunset photos, looking back at Walker Homestead and seeing all of the people important to us mingling around and playing the yard games. That image of all of those people there to celebrate us and enjoying the night was one of the best things. It was such a happy day! I also loved walking down the aisle with my dad, and waiting with him around the corner until it was time.

Q. What advice do you have for future couples that are wedding planning?

It goes so fast and gets really overwhelming, but stop and enjoy every part of it. You do so much planning and preparing, and then in one day it's all over. So any time that you can stop and take a mental picture or think about that moment, it will keep you in the present and just enjoying the best time of your life!

Q. What is next for you and your husband?

We've had the best time of our lives just being married. After our honeymoon we got me officially moved down to Kalona. We've had some date nights and times to go on outdoor adventures together before I start back to school. We plan to keep date nights a regular thing to make sure to set time aside for each other in our busy lives.

Anything else you would like to share?

Our wedding was the best day ever! I constantly wish that I could relive it over and over!
